Still Life

1950

Jean Kubota American, born 1926

United States

Jean Kubota Cassill first met fellow artist Miyoko Ito at Ox-Bow in 1949, and although they only studied together for two summers, they developed a close friendship. The art Cassill produced in Michigan intimately reflects her immediate surroundings, both natural and manmade. The old wooden chair on which the still life sits—also seen in one of Ito's prints—remains in use at Ox-Bow.
