Mendori Table Lamp from the IN-EI collection

2012

Issey Miyake Japanese, 1938-2022

Japan

It is impossible to tell that the Mendori Lamp is made from recycled plastic bottles. Part of the collection IN-EI, named after the Japanese word for “shade,” the lamp is engineered from flexible fabric, allowing it to unfold from flat, two-dimensional shapes into three-dimensional shades. The fabric has a structural integrity due to the fibers in the material that is self-supporting, obviating the need for a separate frame inside the lamp. With the use of innovative materials and process, this green design reduces both energy consumption and CO2 emissions up to 80% when compared with the production of new materials.
