French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are famous for simple yet unexpected furniture, design objects, and environmental furnishings, yet they are most prolific in the medium of drawing. The Bouroullec brothers use drawing to think, explore, document, and try out new ideas in their work. In Ronan’s drawing, a network of lines in bold colors resembles coral, or tree branches, with the translucent color highlighting points of intersection and diffusion. This drawing recalls the branching designs of Bouroullec’s pieces, such as the Algues screens, and it also seems to illustrate a principal of structure or growth.
