Robert Lostutter American, born 1939

United States

Working in watercolor, Robert Lostutter follows the technique of the Old Masters, applying transparent layers of colors from light to dark and hatching with fine brushes to model form. Early in his career, he was fascinated with bondage and depicted figures in sadomasochistic poses, as seen here. Like all Chicago Imagists, Lostutter creates images that force the viewer to confront the incomprehensible.
