Patrick Jouin French, born 1967 Manufactured by Materialise Belgian, founded 1990
Patrick Jouin’s kinetic design was the first piece of furniture created with Belgian design company Materialise’s Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), a rapid prototyping technique that produces three-dimensional objects from a computer model. Jouin digitally “printed” ONE_SHOT Stool in three dimensions from polymer powder fusedtogether and hardened with heat from a laser beam. The work emerged from the printing process in the folded position, fully formed and ready to use. ONE_SHOT Stool features 35 hinges, 12 movable legs, and an integrated handle on the seat to allow for easy opening and closing; with a simple twist of the hand, the cluster of rods transforms into a small, functional, aesthetically strong seat.
