A work made of watercolor, over traces of charcoal, on cream wove paper.

Dancer and Man

n.d.

Jean Louis Forain French, 1852-1931

France

The spontaneous pose of the dancer lends an air of immediacy to Forain's watercolor, capturing in a lively way the chance meeting after a performance. The work is strongly evocative of the work of Degas, who repeatedly turned to the ballet for his subject matter.
