Here vibrant colors combine with lozenge shapes are juxtaposed with triangles within triangles and trapezoids, creating a pattern similar to a lattice. The design may be a highly abstracted version of the late Heian-period shippo tsunagi (seven treasures) motif of interlocking circles that form lozenges.
