From 1916 to 1926 Höch worked in the handicrafts department of a German publishing house, designing patterns for embroidered and lace fabrics. During this time she also practiced collage as a fine-art form, eventually joining other Dada artists in Germany to make collages using a socio-political vocabulary that was quite distinct from the formalism of Cubist collage.
