Laura Mosquera American, born Panama, 1966
United States
Mosquera earned her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1999 and is known for paintings with saturated colors, but her drawings are marked by the use of blindingly white paper to create fields of negative space. Here she employed pattern and line to suggest the vivid forms found in her paintings. With the facial features of the figures difficult to make out, an overwhelming sense of isolation permeates the image.
