Farmer and His Cart

1834

Johann Adam Klein German, 1792-1875

Germany

Returned from his studies in Vienna and an extended stay in Italy, Klein settled in southern Germany in 1821. There, he continued to produce numerous images of farmers and their livestock. Klein added Nuremberg, his hometown, to the print, and specifically noted that he published it himself. The two cows and a horse seen taking a respite from their labor may also be local residents.
