Jacob Lawrence American, 1917-2000

United States

This drawing is one of six that Jacob Lawrence drew as illustrations for Langston Hughes’s 1947 book of poetry, One-Way Ticket. In its remarkable feeling for pattern and rhythm, the drawing has a symbiotic relationship with the poem.
