A work made of pressed and blown glass, pewter.

Pair of Candlesticks

1830–40

Artist unknown (American, 19th century) Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh

The combination of blown and pressed elements in these candlestick designs makes them some of the most sophisticated American glass of this period. The candlesticks retain their original pewter inserts, called bobeche, which prevented the heat of the candle from cracking the glass.
