Married Woman's Bògòlanfini Wrapper (Wele)

1987

Designed and executed by N'tanga Diabate (active 20th century) Minianka Mali, Koutiala

Mali

The symbols used in the designs of bògòlanfini cloths sometimes relate to knowledge passed within a community, from one generation to the next, especially from mother to daughter. Many of these themes form a type of moral code, making the cloths a permanent visual reminder of the qualities expected of a mother and a spouse.
