Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois, Typical Building, Two Perspective Sketches

c. 1940–1941

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe American, born Germany, 1886-1969

Chicago

An important aspect of Mies’s design for IIT is the way that he used standard building types to create a unified image and experience on the campus. Here, sketches for the “typical” building show how a small set of ideal architectural forms could be modified to create individual building programs for classrooms, laboratories, and residential spaces.
