Late Entry to the Tribune Tower Competition, Perspective

1980

Charles Willard Moore (American, 1925-1993) John Ruble (American, born 1947) Buzz Yudell (American, born 1947)

United States

Charles Moore’s drawing features an atmospheric evocation of one of the most celebrated entries to the original 1922 competition: the second-place winner, designed by Eliel Saarinen. Moore emphasizes the strong vertical lines of Saarinen’s proposal with a beam of light extending from the building’s glowing core. The architect used a night setting reminiscent of the dramatic architectural renderings of the 1920s and ’30s.
